EBook Review – Gnit-Wit Gnipper and the Perilous Plague – T K Lantz

Poor Gnipper!! for an 8 year old rather accident prone Gnome, life really isn’t easy, especially when your Professor Father, doesnt stop reminding you of your shortcomings!  Gnipper is determined to not be called a Gnit-Wit by anyone anymore, and is just as determined to earn the honour bestowed on all great Gnomes, so she sets about putting her latest plan into action, with shocking results, will her father ever forgive her and who knew unicorns made such good doctors!

Razberry Rating:

This easy to read book aimed at young solo readers  charts the story of Gnipper a Gnome trying to highest accolade for Gnomes, but no matter how much she tries, she just seems to get deeper and deeper into trouble!

Lovely to read to your children, but equally suitable for a keen reader to enjoy themselves, the story wends a nice tale, revealing as it goes little snippets about the world of Gnomes! I hope there will be more Gnipper books, building on the foundations started in this book.

About the author….in his own words

"I grew up on Long Island, New York and moved to York, Pa for college. I earned my B.A in history from York College and my M.S. in education from Drexel University. I began writing the summer of 2011 after experiencing the wonderful world of being a furloughed teacher. I currently live in York, pa with my wife, Maya, and our six fur covered children: Sadie, Rigby and Angus (Dogs) and Grimlock, Molly, and Pumpernickle (Cats). In my free time I enjoy traveling, hiking, nerdy games, and exotic beer."

Where do you get your inspirations for your characters and storylines in your books?

"Anywhere I can. The main character of my novel, Jaxon Miniheart is a half Demon struggling to overcome his evil nature and find a niche in the world. He was modelled after one of my fraternity brothers in college that seemed to be able to find every ounce of trouble the world produced.

Gnipper Tallhat, the center of the Gnit-wit Gnipper series is an eight year old Gnome trying desperately to earn her father’s respect through her scientific discoveries. I created her as a mockery of some of the parents I’ve dealt with as an elementary school teacher that put ridiculous stress on their children to succeed."

What were your favourite books from your childhood?

'Like most fantasy writers I loved the Lord of the Rings and Narnia. I also really enjoyed A Brave New World, Animal Farm, and Archie comics."

What are the best thing and the worst thing about being a writer?

"The best thing is being able to create whatever I want and make it real. I love the process of seeing everything go from vague plans and ideas to concrete stories. It’s like being a literary architect and creating a building of words from the ground up."

Tell us a little bit about your books, what age group they are for and where an people buy your books? (we will put links around here etc just give a little description of your titles and targeted audience)

"I currently have one short story out, Gnit-wit Gnipper and the Perilous Plague, which chronicles the attempt of 8 year old amateur scientist Gnipper Tallhat and her attempt to cure her father, whom she infected with the plague. It is written at a 10 to 11 year old reading level, but is appropriate for younger children with a strong vocabulary.  I would describe the genre as dark-humor fantasy, with some very, very dry jokes.

Rise of the Retics, which takes place in the same setting as Gnit-wit Gnipper, is also dark-humor fantasy, but also attempts to tackle much more serious topics. It is also written at a 5th-6th grade level, but this is less appropriate for younger audiences as it deals with some extreme topics such as war, death, and racism (speciesism to be exact). It involves several fast paced violent scenes, as well as a very funny situation involving a four inch tall Brownie torturer that might give the little ones some nightmares. This novel, coming in at just over 80,000 words, is due for release at the end of October.

My current project is a second short story in my Gnit-wit Gnipper series called Gnit-wit Gnipper and the Ferocious Fire-ants. In this story Gnipper, desiring to make herself taller, invents a growth serum that has disastrous effects when she tests it on her fire-ant farm. Gnipper, along with her best friend, Sam and her grandmother Gnanny, must find a way to solve the situation before the town is overrun by the venomous insects.
