Razberry Candy – Colin Salmon

Sticking with the James Bond theme for just a little longer, this week's Razberry Candy has been in no less than three Bond films, and is currently wowing us strutting his stuff with partner Kristina Rihanoff Saturday nights in the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

NAME: Colin Salmon age 50 (born 6 December 1962)

ABOUT: Born in Bethnal Green in London, Salmon grew up in Luton, he attended Ramridge Primary School and then went on to Ashcroft High School.

Rather surprisingly, when we view the extremely suave and sophisticated actor now, when he left school, he became the drummer in a punk rock band called Friction, formed by Salmon and three school friends; Friction released a 7-inch EP, a live cassette, and a cassette-EP, and they regularly performed around Luton in 1979 and 1980.

Today music has stayed close to his heart, playing the trumpet in a Jazz Quartet and appearing at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. So perhaps it shouldn’t surprise anyone to see him dancing in the BBC's latest series of Strictly Come Dancing, paired with fiery Russian dancer Kristina Rihanoff, they are proving a formidable force on the dance floor, Salmon's natural musicality and height being used to its full advantage. We are of course rather biased but we are hoping for great things from them, and hope to see Colin strutting his stuff for many more weeks on the dance floor!

Salmon is perhaps though, best known for his roles in three James Bond movies, although he doesn’t star in the upcoming blockbuster Skyfall (due for UK release 26 October 2012), this has not stopped us using this very tenuous link to bring you Salmon as a very worthy Razberry Candy this 'Bond' week.

Salmon starred as Charles Robinson in Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Apparently he was considered to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond! This is a rather tricky one, as our allegiance to Daniel Craig as James Bond is very decided, however, after seeing Salmon slinking his way around the dance floor – gosh he would have been good!

As well as a plethora of TV and Films roles, he is also well known for appearing in both Resident Evil and Alien vs Predator, and aswell as appearing every Saturday night shaking his stuff on the dance floor, 2012 also sees Salmon, reprising his role as One in the film Resident Evil: Retribution, the original character of One was killed in a most grisly manner in the original Resident Evil film and therefore Salmon plays a cloned version of his former self (almost as good as reappearing in the shower?).

WHAT MAKES HIM RAZBERRY CANDY: One of our perhaps unsung British treasures, Salmon has consistently worked in the TV and Film industry since 1992 (Sgt. Robert Oswald in the British series Prime Suspect 2 was his debut role). Fingers and toes crossed we will continue to see his moves on the dance floor on Saturday nights for a while yet!!
