Razberry Candy – Michael Bublé

Michael Buble - ChristmasNAME: Michael Steven Bublé

AGE: 37 (born 9 September 1975)

ABOUT: We have been waiting and waiting to do 'the Buble', knowing Christmas is the time when this Canadian singer and all round ladies favourite comes into his own! Nothing says Christmas much more than the lovely Mr Bublé crooning 'Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas'!

Born in British Columbia, Canada to parents Lewis and Amber Bublé, he has two younger sisters Crystal and Brandee. He attended Seaforth Elementary School and Cariboo Hill Secondary School. He had aspirations from very young to be a singer, apparently dreaming of such things since the tender age of two, sleeping with his bible when he was a teenager, and praying to become a famous singer!

It was when he was about five years old, around Christmas time that he first heard Bing Crosby sing White Christmas and this was the seed needed to plant his love of Jazz (and Christmas songs!), but it wasn’t until he was about thirteen that his family began to notice the amazing singing talent he has, the family were singing in the car to White Christmas and Michael's rendition of those famous lines 'may your days be merry and bright' were so powerfully sung the rest of the family couldn’t fail to notice!

But it wasn’t all just singing for Bublé as he grew up, he also had a passion for ice hockey and harboured a hope to become a professional ice hockey player for the Vanco

uver Canucks. He didn’t think he was good enough though, and is quoted as saying "I wanted so bad to be a hockey player… If I was any good at hockey, I probably wouldn't be singing right now."

Bublé's first job was about as far removed from the traditional paper round as possible, at age 14, he spent his summers working with his father as a commercial fisherman, Bublé has since described this work experience as "The most deadly physical work I’ll ever know in my lifetime. We’d be gone for two, sometimes three months at a time and the experience of living and working among guys over twice my age taught me a lot about responsibility and what it means to be a man." Perhaps this experience is partly to thank for the fact that despite his fame and success Michael Buble remains it seems a thoroughly nice, humble and engaging human being!

His Italian plumber grandfather Demetrio Santagà helped Michael out with his first singing gigs, offering his plumbing services to clubs for singing stage time for his grandson, he also paid for the young Bublé's singing lessons. Bublé credits his grandfather as being the man who opened up the world of music and in particular jazz to him ”My grandfather was really my best friend growing up. He was the one who opened me up to a whole world of music that seemed to have been passed over by my generation. Although I like rock 'n' roll and modern music, the first time my granddad played me the Mills Brothers, something magical happened. The lyrics were so romantic, so real, the way a song should be for me. It was like seeing my future flash before me. I wanted to be a singer and I knew that this was the music that I wanted to sing."

From the age of 18, Bublé embarked on a series of fairly unsuccessful music ventures, he would sing anywhere!, including singing telegrams, talent shows, cruise ships, shopping malls, hotel lounges, clubs and bars etc., however true success continued to elude him, and it was not until 1997 when he started appearing on Vicki Gabereau's national talk show on the CTV network as a fill-in for cancelled guests that some limited success came his way, the show gave him the exposure he needed and helped him hone his television skills as a performer.

But it was not until 2000, that the lucky break really came! In a rather surprising way – an aide to the former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney saw Bublé performing at a business party and bought a copy of Bublé’s self-financed album. The aide, Michael McSweeney, showed the album to Mulroney and when Mulroney's daughter Caroline, got married Buble was booked to sing! At the wedding he was introduced to multi-Grammy Award-winning producer David Foster, and eventually, after some initial reluctance Foster agreed to produce an album for him if Bublé raised himself raised the $500,000 to cover the costs of the production – which he did – but in the end, Foster covered the costs of production under own his label.

The rest as they say is 'almost history' after the release of this first album in 2003, his rise to superstardom was assured, and 2013 will see the release of his sixth album, he has now sold over 30 million albums worldwide, popping him into singing royalty!

Buble's friendly demeanour, good looks and amazing singing voice have made him an international success and 'candy' of choice by millions of adoring female (and male!) fans across the globe!
