NAME: Gerard Butler
AGE: 42 (born 13 November 1969)
ABOUT: Born in Paisley, Scotland, Butler initially was set for a career in the law, but his partying lifestyle saw this come to an abrupt end when he was sacked just a week before he qualified as a solicitor. Moving to London and of course working in the requite pre-actor success jobs of waiter/salesman etc. He caught a break in Steven Berkoff’s play of Coriolanus, which then led to more stage roles, including the leading role in the stage adaption of Trainspotting.
His first film appearance came in Mrs Brown in 1997, more film roles followed – including in Dracula 2000 (2000), Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003), Timeline (2003), Dear Frankie (2005), and Beowolf & Grendal (2005).
But it was not until 2007 that he was cast in the film which alerted him to eager female eyes and which turned a film about the Spartans into perhaps one of the greatest chick flicks ever made – Butler was cast as King Leonidas in the film 300, described as his breakthrough role, he has continued to work in films such as; PS, I Love you (2007), The Ugly Truth (2009), Law Abiding Citizen (2009), and recently he stars in the upcoming Of Men & Mavericks, due for release in November 2012.
Butler has struggled with alcoholism, being open about this when interviewed, a low point came in in February 2012 when he was treated for addiction to painkillers. He is a Celtic FC supporter and generally thought to have likeable, friendly, kind persona.
WHAT MAKES HIM RAZBERRY CANDY?: Training like a frenzied crazy man to achieve that body for the film 300, turning what purports to be an action testosterone fuelled man film into one of the most delightful sights for female sore eyes! Thank you Gerard!
