ABOUT: When searching for the first Razberry Candy of the year, I had a total mind blank. Sometimes it can be hard finding someone who fills all the criteria! One of my colleagues suggested Thor, knowing all too well I have an interest, not only in Norse Mythology, but also 'one' in the Australian actor Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor in the Marvel Comic films!
So this Razberry Candy is a double bubble! We have a Norse God and an upcoming screen god all rolled into one! Former Home & Away actor Hemsworth contributes the eye candy and the Norse God original version contributes a bit of interesting mythology!
The god Thor from Norse mythology wields his hammer Mjollnir and is the god associated with storms and thunder and lightning who is tasked with the protection of mankind.
Thor is the husband of the goddess Sif, a golden-haired beauty, and also the lover of the Jötunn (one of the mythological races seen in Norse Mythology), Járnsaxa. Thor is generally described as red-haired and red-bearded with fierce eyes (nothing like the blonde Thor Chris Hemsworth plays in the Marvel films). With various mothers, Thor fathered the goddess Þrúðr, and sons Magni and Móði, and he is the stepfather to the god Ullr. Thor himself is said to be the son of the god Odin.
Thor wields his famous mountain crushing hammer, known as Mjöllnir (also spelled Mjölnir), wears a belt called Megingjörð (meaning power-belt in old norse, which is said to double Thor's already considerable strength), and the iron gloves Járngreipr (translated, iron-gauntlets), which he needs to wear to wield Mjöllnir, these three items together are known as his main possessions.
Chris Hemsworth (born 11 August 1983, age 30) who played Thor in the Marvel Studios films Thor (2011) and The Avengers (2012), was born in Melbourne, Australia. His first major film appearance though came in 2009, when he played George Kirk in the film Star Trek, but before Thor, he was probably best known for his role in the Australian soap opera, Home & Away, in which he starred from 2004 until 2007 playing the role of Kim Hyde in 171 episodes.
Hemsworth will be back on our screens in 2013 reprising his role of Thor in Thor: The Dark World.
WHAT MAKES THEM RAZBERRY CANDY: Well the Norse god version needs little explanation – he is a god!
Chris Hemsworth is definitely an up and coming Aussie who looks far better than the mythology would suggest he should when he wields his hammer!
